Which Meal From The Bear Are You According To Your Zodiac Sign?

Now four seasons in, FX's "The Bear" has earned plenty of fans among critics and average viewers. While there's plenty of discussion to be had about whether the award-winning series really qualifies as a comedy (the heart palpitations we get during each intense episode would suggest otherwise), there's one thing everyone can agree on: The food in the show looks divine.

From humble fare like a classic Chicago hot dog to more elevated menu items like egg yolk raviolo, "The Bear" regularly serves up delicious dishes that viewers enjoy eating with their eyes. Of course, the evolution to The Bear from The Beef is one that could be compared to the signs within the zodiac. After all, Aries, the youngest of the zodiac signs, is also often the most temperamental and volatile, while Pisces, the eldest member, is a little more subdued, having learned from its predecessors. So, naturally, we had to combine the two and determine which dish featured on "The Bear" matches up with which zodiac sign. Fortunately for anyone reading, there are no duds on this list –– every single one of them is as delicious-sounding as the one before.

Aries: Sydney's cola-braised short ribs and risotto

What is an Aries if not someone who prefers to dive straight into competition? Such is the case for Sydney when, in the 6th episode of Season 1, titled "Ceres," she ignores Carmy's decision to keep her risotto off the restaurant's menu. Instead, she serves it to a customer, alongside cola-braised short ribs.

Using cola may seem like an odd choice for cooking (and if you really don't want to make mistakes cooking your own short ribs, you'll want all the tips), but that's part of the reason why this standout dish is so successful –– and so Aries-coded. The fire sign is known for being bold and ambitious, and, along with the short ribs, Sydney opts for risotto. A daunting dish for novice chefs that requires a careful eye and constant attention, it's something an Aries would choose to prove a point. Cooked too long and the rice becomes mushy; taken off the heat too soon and the grains are tough and too toothsome. Of course, Aries always rises to a challenge, just like Sydney does.

Taurus: Marcus's chocolate ganache cake

Who loves decadence more than a Taurus? The earth sign is known for being a bit of a homebody who loves indulgent, comforting things –– and what could be more indulgent and comforting than a slice of chocolate cake? Purchased from a bakery or made from scratch, it is hard to go wrong with this decadent dessert. Taurus knows what they like and they always prefer a classic over something more avant-garde.

In Season 1, Episode 4, pastry chef Marcus painstakingly constructs a three layer chocolate cake coated in a deep, dark chocolate ganache that looks seriously drool-worthy. The passion he puts into building this cake is unparalleled, and simply part of who Marcus is as a chef. The luscious, dark, indulgent chocolate cake is emblematic of luxury-loving Taurus. While we can't get our hands on Marcus's creation, we can always whip up our own chocolate cake when we need to satisfy our cravings –– just be sure that you add instant coffee to really amplify those cocoa flavors.

Gemini: Caviar and crème fraîche on waffles

While some signs of the zodiac may ask, "Why?" Gemini is the type to ask, "Why not?" This air sign is spontaneous, playful, and exactly the kind of person who would think to pair together high end ingredients like caviar and crème fraîche on something as low-brow as frozen toaster waffles. Their insatiable curiosity –– what might this taste like? –– is why this is the dish that represents them.

This meal is seen in the 3rd season's finale, called "Forever." Following the closing of the restaurant Ever, Sydney hosts a wake of sorts at her apartment, inviting both the staff of Ever and The Bear. At the party, this dish is made for everyone to enjoy, and it's a strange one upon first hearing it. But, with pretty much every dish we see on "The Bear," it works. Like a Gemini, this meal is eccentric, interesting, and ultimately pretty compelling, even if you give it the side-eye at first.

Cancer: Mikey's family spaghetti

You might assume that, being a water sign, Cancer would be represented by a seafood dish and we'd call it a day. So obvious, right? Not so for this intuitive, sensitive sign. Instead, Cancer is best represented by Mikey's family spaghetti, a recipe that's given to Carmy in a letter with some very specific directions.

Coming from a restaurant originally named The Beef, it might surprise you to learn that Mikey's spaghetti contains no meat at all. Instead, it has just four ingredients: 10 cloves of garlic, basil steeped in olive oil, and two smaller cans of San Marzano tomatoes. (Why two smaller cans instead of one large can? It's part of the secret Mikey left for his younger brother.) This meal is comforting and homey, and contains a little something extra (specifically, a lot of cash) inside. Like Cancer, the hard shell of those tomato cans protects the goodness inside, in the same way the water sign likes to keep things close to the chest. And in case you're not culinarily inclined enough to replicate this dish, some quality store-bought pasta sauce can work.

Leo: Sydney's Chilean sea bass with tomato confit

If you ever want to have a star at your party, invite a Leo. Represented by the lion, these star signs are truly the kings and queens of the jungle (or anywhere, really). Leos love to stand out and take the spotlight, much in the way Sydney's Chilean sea bass with tomato confit does. Also made in the finale of Season 1 ("Braciole"), Sydney makes this elegant meal in the comfort of her own apartment for Marcus as the two figure out how to navigate working at The Bear.

The dish is glamorous and flavorful (for those in the industry, Chilean sea bass is hardly a budget cut of fish, even if it's simply prepared the way Sydney does in this episode). Set atop a colorful medley of tomatoes, the perfectly cooked, flaky, buttery fish is a stunner. With looks this beautiful, it's no wonder it would be a match for image-conscious and luxury-loving Leo.

Virgo: Marcus' perfect doughnut

We've already established that Marcus is a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to his baking. In Episode 7 of Season 1, "Review." Marcus actually ditches his cake-making duties in pursuit of that perfection, in the form of crafting the perfect doughnut.

Making a light yeast doughnut is an exact science, one that involves precision, technique, and dedication. Those qualities basically describe your average Virgo. This Earth sign can get a bad reputation for being a bit of a stick-in-the-mud, but in actuality, they're just very committed to doing things the right way (which, in most cases, means their way). Marcus spends the entire day working on his doughnut, at the expense of everyone else and to the rage of Carmy. That tunnel vision can be a trait of a Virgo who really wants to get something done and done right. The simplicity of this dish –– a doughnut, nothing fancy –– is also emblematic of this minimalistic sign.

Libra: Carmy's plum dessert

Shown breaking it down to Marcus during Season 1 Episode 3, the plum dessert comes from Carmy's time working in fine dining under the tutelage of a wrathful head chef. The dessert consisted of four plum-based components: Plum syrup, plum consommé, compressed fresh plums, and, of course, the plum gelée. This last one was the toughest part, according to Carmy, because it was near impossible to get the texture right. Every time, Carmy explains, it would be too soft, too hard, melt too easily, or be too gummy. Like the sign that always attempts to balance the scales –– Libra –– the plum dessert required chefs to master high levels of creativity as well as technicality. Plum can be tricky in desserts, which is why it's helpful to rely on tips from experts like Ina Garten.

Libra is also a sign prone to establishing harmony and equilibrium –– something Carmy struggles with throughout the series, and is perhaps best represented by the anxiety that plagued him during the construction of this dish (and his recollection of it later). Additionally, this plum dessert was a beautiful one — the discussion was literally sparked by a photo of its plating) something this air sign can always appreciate.

Scorpio: Sydney's French omelette

Compared to the last dish, a plate of eggs certainly doesn't sound all that exciting. However, when it comes to the French omelette created by Sydney, the simple brunch dish is much more than meets the eye.

Shown in the aptly-titled Season 2 episode "Omelette," Sydney creates this egg dish to feed a hungry Sugar. The first step to a silky smooth French omelette is to crack the eggs over a sieve for a more uniform texture. From there, with the help of copious amounts of butter, Sydney rapidly stirs the eggs, giving them a luscious, custardy texture. Then, like the Scorpio who is known for keeping secrets, Sydney pipes a thick line of decadent Boursin cheese –– something that will only be revealed when the omelette is cut into. Finally, echoing the spiky exterior of the water sign, the omelette is finished with crushed potato chips and chopped chives. Presented with love and care to a friend, it's another nod to Scorpio's hard-won loyalty.

Sagittarius: The Bear's duck dish

Frequently in pursuit of adventure, Sagittarius doesn't like to keep things status quo. The last of the fire signs (although you'd be forgiven for thinking that the archer is an air sign) is frequently evolving, which means pairing it with a dish that is likewise mutable.

In the 5th episode of the 3rd season, titled "Children," the crew at The Bear is left scrambling trying to recreate a duck dish that was mentioned in a review of the restaurant, because the daily menu changes have left them without the ingredients (and a huge bill to boot). The initial idea of having a menu that changes daily is meant to keep The Bear fresh and interesting. Always in pursuit of something new and exciting, it is much like Sagittarius, who is always on the hunt for the next great adventure. Of course, such goals can come back to bite you later, like the rotating duck dish does for the kitchen staff in the show.

Capricorn: Carmy's raviolo

While you're likely familiar with ravioli –– those pillowy pockets stuffed with cheese or meat –– you may not be as well acquainted with raviolo. Introduced in the Season 3 episode "Next," Carmy has decided one of the menu changes will be swapping the ravioli for one large raviolo. Raviolo is a super-sized, singular portion of pasta, and in Carmy's interpretation, it's filled with an egg yolk. Egg yolk raviolo is an exacting, painstaking dish; the result should be a perfectly cooked yolk that oozes out when the pasta dough is pierced, but it can easily go awry and leak into the pasta water if not cooked correctly. Creating one requires dedication and perseverance.

That certainly sounds like a Capricorn! The earth sign is ambitious and patient, and there's nothing this pasta dish requires more to succeed. Capricorns are always willing to do whatever it takes of them to master a skill, sometimes at the expense of others, like how Carmy's decision to switch up the pasta dish is bemoaned by his colleagues.

Aquarius: Carmy's pan-seared fish with blood orange

This tricky dish is another one to rear its head in Carmy's past when it's introduced to us in the 1st episode of Season 3, titled "Tomorrow." In a flashback scene, Carmy is working at fine dining restaurant Empire and develops a fish dish using yellowtail and blood orange. However, his domineering head chef David Fields swaps the blood orange for fennel. Still, Carmy manages to sneak in one of his original dishes –– and it winds up on the plate of none other than Sydney.

Going their own way regardless of what they've been told is the way of life for an Aquarius. This air sign is all about being innovative and imaginative, and they would rather exert their own personal freedom than play by anyone else's rules. Choosing blood orange over fennel may have been a small swap, but it's emblematic of the progressive nature of Aquarius. Plus, Carmy knows his dish is the superior choice, and Aquarius is nothing if not a humanitarian.

Pisces: Carmy's lemon chicken piccata

Pisces is a sign that's known for their attachment to family. Carmy's lemon chicken piccata makes its way onto The Bear's menu in "Sheridan," the 5th episode of the 1st season, after he sees his sister Sugar making it. Chicken piccata is an old-school dish made from a lightly fried chicken cutlet in a buttery sauce flavored with lemon, capers, and fresh herbs. It's nothing fancy –– especially not compared to later dishes featured on the show –– but it is homey, and that duality is all Pisces.

The final water sign of the zodiac is known for being in conflict with themselves, swimming in opposite directions, much like how Carmy spends much of the series torn between his familial duties and his personal ambitions. This chicken piccata –– first made by family, now on The Bear's menu –– represents that perfectly. Pisces is meant to have absorbed the lessons of the other signs, being the last one in the zodiac, and although this chicken piccata is featured early in the series, it may be the best one to represent the eventual harmony Carmy will have to achieve in his life for true happiness.
