End Coffee Mug Clutter With This Genius Dollar Tree Hack

No self-respecting coffee lover would be caught without a neat collection of coffee mugs, and yet keeping them organized is easier said than done. Try as we might, coffee mugs have a tendency to turn into a mess of disorganized ceramic drinkware that clutters up our cabinets. Fortunately, there's plenty of ways to keep your mug collection in check, including a genius Dollar Tree hack we found on TikTok that creates an easy and inexpensive hanging mug rack.

There are a few different versions of the Dollar Tree coffee mug rack (including one that uses a toilet plunger), but for this version, all you need is a pack of zip ties, a hot glue gun with glue, four over-the-door hook racks, and two broom handles. Take three of the hook racks and straighten out the two hooks on top that would hook over a door, then secure them to the broom handles with zip ties, so that the straightened hooks sit flat along the length of the handles. The last rack will go on top and doesn't need to be straightened. The hooks can go over the ends of the handles.

Once each rack is secured on both sides, use your glue gun to further secure the racks to the broom handles. Wait for the glue to dry and then decorate it to your taste — maybe to match the rest of your DIY kitchen coffee bar.

Tips for hanging your new Dollar Tree mug rack

Once your new mug rack is done, it's time to hang it on the wall. Remember, it needs to support the weight of up to 24 mugs, so ensure it's anchored securely. Due to the weight, it's best to hang your rack on your wall studs or use drywall anchors designed for heavy objects. Make a small hole in each broom handle near the upper end, on the back side, and use those holes to hang your rack on nails hammered into your stud or drywall anchors. Give it a quick tug to check and ensure it's secure.

While this Dollar Tree hack for increasing your kitchen's storage space is relatively simple, it doesn't have to look like it. You have endless possibilities for decoration. You can hide the broom handles with twine and artificial flowers. Paint it to match the rest of your kitchen, or attach some string lights to enhance your coffee mug rack with extra flair.
