The Cheap Dollar Store Hack For Storing Kitchen Utensils
Messy kitchen storage is the bane of chefs everywhere. No matter how we try to organize them, our kitchen utensils seemingly jumble themselves up as soon as we close the kitchen drawer. Worry not, though. There are plenty of affordable kitchen updates you can use to organize your kitchen without breaking the bank, including one dollar store hack that will easily keep your utensils neatly stored.
To organize your utensils, all you need are deep cups or similar containers from the dollar store, as well as a power drill. Next time you go shopping at Dollar Tree for its best grocery offerings, get your containers there. Then, mount them to the side of your cabinet with the drill — look for a reinforced spot for extra security when mounting these — and use them to store your utensils. They'll be within sight and reach, so you can easily get the one you're looking for without having to dig through cavernous kitchen drawers.
Any kind of container works for this purpose, but we think that metal cups will look the best and last the longest. If you can find cups with holes, such as you might find in a restaurant, that's ideal for installation and to keep things dry. However, even plastic cups can work if you're willing to drill through them. Be sure to use sturdy screws, as they have to support the weight of your utensils in addition to the cups.
Use mounting hooks to make your job easier
If you don't like the idea of drilling into your cabinets, don't worry. You can use another Dollar Tree must-have to keep your kitchen organized and pick up a set of mounting hooks instead. These hooks stick to surfaces with adhesive, so you don't have to break out the power tools (though you may still have to cut a hole or two in your containers for the hooks). This is ideal if you're renting a property or if you're worried about your renovations affecting the home's value.
You can attach your wall hooks to the side of your cabinets or inside the cabinets themselves. In addition to storage cups, you can also use them to hold individual utensils with holes on their handles, like spatulas. While their capacity varies, some wall hooks can hold far heavier things than a few spoons and spatulas (just check the packaging to be sure of the load-bearing capacity).
Generally, all you need to do is peel off a sticker to expose the adhesive underneath. Before sticking it on, thoroughly clean the surface you plan to attach it to and ensure it's completely flat. If you're lucky enough to find metal cups with holes built in, compare the holes to your hooks to ensure they can fit.
