9 Discontinued Trader Joe's Fall Items We Desperately Want Back
We're not ashamed to admit it: Fall is our favorite season. The crisp air, the gorgeous colors, and, of course, the food. From hearty stews to apple cider cake to the return of Starbucks' ubiquitous Pumpkin Spice Latte, we adore the flavors that the season brings. In fact, one of the signals the fall is coming isn't just the changing leaves — it's the changing display at Trader Joe's.
The beloved grocery chain goes hard on fall, with pumpkin, apple, butternut squash, and maple all making their mark on TJ's products across all departments. Seasonal goodies like the Pumpkin Spice Mini Sheet Cake, Salted Maple Cold Foam Creamer, Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese, and more have made a triumphant return to store shelves this year, ensuring customers stock up on all their fall favorites before they're yanked for the season.
Of course, while there's plenty to get excited about at Trader Joe's during autumn, we can't help but be a little despondent over the seasonal treats that have been discontinued, never to return to our cart again. Below are Trader Joe's fall items we desperately want to go back to stores. And if you feel the same, you can always reach out to the company directly. Which ones do you miss most?
The Shell House Pumpkin Seltzer
When it comes to fall flavors, there's probably none quite as quintessential as pumpkin spice. Love it or hate it (Anthony Bourdain was decidedly not a fan), pumpkin spice has appeared in everything from coffee to cheese to, of course, seltzer.
Spiked seltzers have long been having a moment, and this 5% ABV beverage is the house brand name from Trader Joe's that still exists today, although not in this particular seasonal flavor. Available for an incredible price ($6 for a six-pack, according to a Redditor), we'd be more than happy to swig a few of these seltzers, even if the reviews weren't always the greatest.
We think the biggest issue with the Shell House Pumpkin Seltzer — and perhaps part of the reason it was discontinued a few years ago – is that it advertised itself as "pumpkin" rather than "pumpkin spice," and there's quite a bit of difference between the two. While pumpkins are earthy, slightly sweet, and generally mild, pumpkin spice is, well, spicy. If you're getting hit in the face with the latter while expecting the former, we can see how this discontinued fall product didn't fare so well.
Butternut Squash Pizza Crust
Sure, cauliflower crust pizza can be a great, low-carb, gluten-free option, but what if you want to zhuzh it up a little bit for autumn? Like trading in your beloved flip-flops for boots once the weather gets a bit chillier. Enter: Trader Joe's Butternut Squash Pizza Crust. Unlike TJ's brand of cauliflower pizza crusts (which we don't recommend), this fall version that came out sometime in 2019 looked pretty good.
With a simple list of ingredients, we would've loved to transform this pizza crust into a harvest-style pie. Some good pizza sauce, fresh mozzarella, and pesto could've helped to balance out the naturally sweet notes of the squash without overburdening the admittedly delicate crust with two many toppings. Alas, it's not meant to be, as we haven't heard from this particular pizza crust since the year it was introduced. If you're still looking for butternut squash in a savory, sliceable format, the closest we can find that Trader Joe's currently offers is a Butternut Squash and Caramelized Onion Tart, which sounds delicious enough that we might just be able to forget about what came before.
Riced Cauliflower Butternut Squash Risotto
Butternut squash — and low carb customers — took another hit with the discontinuation of Trader Joe's Riced Cauliflower Butternut Squash Risotto. Not to be confused with the brand's Butternut Squash Risotto, which does still exist and is currently available during this fall season, the Riced Cauliflower Butternut Squash Risotto appears to be no more.
Reviews for the product were good, with plenty saying that it was a decent low-carb option for customers while still having some decadence, thanks to the inclusion of cream and Grana Padano cheese. While it may not have been a risotto in the traditional sense (despite being imported from Italy), it was a healthful, veggie-forward option that still embraced the fall season, and a way of indulging your need for fall flavors without eating anything too heavy.
Unfortunately, it does seem that this product was discontinued in the last couple of years, and has been replaced by the new Butternut Squash Risotto, which is made with Carnaroli rice rather than cauliflower. So, if following a low-carb diet isn't a necessity for you, we say grab the new version while it's still available.
Pumpkin Rolls
Cinnamon rolls don't have to be a fall-only treat, although there's something to be said about digging into an ooey gooey cinnamon roll that's slathered in cream cheese frosting when the air outside is crisp and those baking spices are synonymous with the season. However, a roll that is a fall-only treat are Trader Joe's Pumpkin Rolls — or they were, until they were discontinued in 2023.
Despite still appearing on the chain's website, the seasonal sweets are listed as "not available" and are not currently showcased on TJ's list of fall products for 2025. The iconic rolls were first introduced in 2014 and featured real pumpkin in both the rolls themselves and the icing you smeared on top. They had a good run for almost a decade before being pulled from shelves, devastating cinnamon roll fans everywhere.
There are still sweet pumpkin breakfast items and even a Cinnamon Roll Blondie Bar Baking Mix currently available at Trader Joe's, but nothing can quite compare to the perfection that was the Pumpkin Rolls. Who knows, maybe they'll return next year.
Pita Crisps with Cranberries and Pumpkin Seeds
No harvest charcuterie spread (or Halloween movie marathon) was complete without a bag of Trader Joe's Pita Crisps with Cranberries and Pumpkin Seeds. Crunchy, salty, sweet, with just the occasional bite of tart chewiness from the dried cranberries, these pita crisps could be enjoyed as a snack on their own or paired with a seasonal cheese (we'd love to try them with the Creamy Toscano Cheese with Cinnamon).
Were they a cracker? Were they a chip? They were both and neither, and unfortunately, it was perhaps that confusion that caused them to be discontinued. Introduced in 2013, these pita crisps were around for a few years before disappearing around 2018. However, Trader Joe's clearly knew it had somewhat of a hit on its hands, because the company brought back the same flavor profile for the similarly named — yet very different — Pumpkin Cranberry Crisps. Instead of pita bread, these crostini-like crackers are a little bit sturdier and less conducive to mindless snacking than their predecessor. They still go great with some cheese, though.
Cinnamon Apple Snack Sticks
Sweet, crunchy, and just autumnal enough without going overboard, Trader Joe's Cinnamon Apple Snack Sticks were a great choice for adults and kids alike. Made with real applesauce, cinnamon, and corn, the gluten-free snack was light and pretty healthy — a serving size was about 38 sticks, which means shoppers could indulge freely. The earliest record we could find of these was 2015, with the product being discontinued sometime in 2020.
Upon hearing of their removal from stores, plenty of Redditors were dismayed, especially those who had children who adored the snack. Fortunately, we have two distinct — and delicious — solutions. For those who still want to patronize Trader Joe's and get their crunchy apple fix, the grocery store offers the Cinnamon Sugar Pink Lady Apple Chips. Still gluten-free, these vacuum-crisped Pink Lady apples are sprinkled with cinnamon sugar for a festive flavor. For those looking to spend their pennies elsewhere, however, we have a dupe: The brand Sensible Portions (the one that makes Veggie Straws) also sell Apple Straws which, as far as we and diehard Trader Joe's fans can tell, are almost identical to the Cinnamon Apple Snack Sticks. Grab a bag (or two) and thank us later.
Organic Pumpkin Bread
Trader Joe's offered pumpkin flavor as well as texture in its Organic Pumpkin Bread. This hearty bread contained organic pumpkin purée plus organic pumpkin seeds, alongside sesame seeds, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, rolled oats, and sweet cinnamon bits for extra heartiness and flavor. It also had the pumpkin spice flavor profile to boot, with cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves joining the party.
Introduced in 2020, it went well with a simple spread of butter or more autumnal fare, like TJ's Pumpkin Butter or Apple Cider Fruit Spread. While the bread was considered slightly sweet, that hearty texture firmly planted it in breakfast territory. Alas, sometimes things are not meant to be, and the bread has since been discontinued.
For those who still have a hankering for a slice of fall they can pop in the toaster, Trader Joe's does provide a few options. There's Pumpkin Brioche Twist, a sweet, eggy bread made with pumpkin purée and fall spices that's best suited to dishes like French toast; Maple Streusel Bread, another dessert-forward option with a buttery maple swirl; and Sliced Apple Cinnamon Sourdough Bread, a more multipurpose bread that we could see as the next vehicle for a fall-inspired grilled cheese.
Apple Cider Fruit Spread
For a taste of fall in a jar, Trader Joe's fans looked no further than the brand's Apple Cider Fruit Spread. This spread was sort of compote-like, with a mix of chunks of apples as well as fall spices like cinnamon, cloves, mace, nutmeg, ginger, coriander, allspice, and cardamom.
A delicious choice for fall, fans recommended using it in yogurt, on toast, waffles, and even as a marinade for poultry or seafood. Truly, it seemed like Trader Joe's had knocked this item out of the park — which is why it's all the more confusing that the company chose to discontinue it a few years ago.
Now, if shoppers want to satisfy their apple cider jam craving, they'll have to turn to this year's version: the Apple Pie Spread. A mix between a fruit curd and a jam, the new spread is made with brown sugar, apples, butter, and cinnamon, giving it a less spice-forward flavor profile and something that's more caramel-adjacent. Less fruity and more decadent, we'd reserve this new spread for ice cream, waffles, and maybe slathered across a slice of Trader Joe's Apple Cinnamon Sourdough Bread for a one-two apple punch.
Mini Pumpkin Ginger Scones
Okay, scones aren't too difficult to make from scratch, but Trader Joe's really made satisfying your fall bakery craving easy with the Mini Pumpkin Ginger Scones. Sold frozen with a dozen mini scones inside, you simply had to allow them to come to room temperature before baking in the oven or air fryer. Then, you were met with the tantalizing aroma of freshly baked pumpkin scones studded with bits of crystallized ginger.
Debuting in 2023, these scones had a short shelf life, despite earning high praise from fans. They weren't overwhelming in the pumpkin department, with the ginger offering a nice pop of spice that could sway even diehard PSL haters. You could enjoy them warm with butter or, if you really wanted to go the extra pumpkin mile, spoon on a bit of pumpkin butter instead.
Unfortunately, while there are plenty of pumpkin spice baked goods stocked on Trader Joe's shelves — including glazed pumpkin pie spice donut holes, pumpkin spice mini sheet cakes, and pumpkin spice biscotti, to name a few — this product didn't make the cut this year or last year and has since been discontinued.
