When it comes to grocery store bakeries, many shoppers just keep on walking. Especially if the baked goods section doesn't even have a bakery — like at Aldi. But if you take the time to try some items and find something that tastes close to homemade, you could discover a new favorite. That's what happened when a Foodie writer tasted a plethora of baked goods from Aldi and discovered a few winners (and a few losers). They determined that one winner, the Bake Shop Kitchen Sink Cookies, was a sweet and salty masterpiece.

With a peanut butter cookie base, a Kitchen Sink Cookie is filled with various delights such as chocolate chunks, pretzels, peanut butter chips, coconut flakes, and white confectionary chunks. The resulting cookie is loaded with textures and flavors. Our writer says she found them to be "ultra tasty, crave-worthy, and definitely more homemade tasting than I was expecting from a packaged box of cookies." The only downfall was that the cookie could have been softer, but our writer concluded that with so many fun ingredients, the structural integrity of the cookie could have suffered under such a texture change.

Do others feel the same way about Bake Shop Kitchen Sink Cookies?

Aldi shoppers on Reddit are also enthusiastic about Kitchen Sink Cookies. In one thread (of several) dedicated to the cookies, customers posted comments like, "I can't buy these. I live alone and they go so quickly," and "These are my personal downfall." Another said, "I am almost disappointed that I tried them, yes they are very good!!" To drive the point home, one commenter in yet another Reddit thread argued that "These cookies are insanely good."

Our writer's description of these cookies as "crave-worthy," the sweet, salty, rich peanut butter, and crunchy pretzel combination seems to work — a little too well. Why do sweet and salty flavors taste so good together? Science. Turns out there are certain sugar receptors on your tongue that only activate in tandem with salt. This results in a delightful enhancement of sweet flavors when tasted along with salty ones. (Ever wonder why dipping your french fries in ice cream tastes so good?)

If you're wondering why your chocolate chip cookies aren't turning out right, maybe you should consider adding something salty — like salted caramel chips. To our mind, Aldi definitely got it right bringing sweet and salty together in the Bake Shop Kitchen Sink Cookies.
