The Savory Breakfast From McDonald's You Should Probably Avoid Ordering
Shrinkflation has been a hot topic over the last few years, and fast food customers writing online have had some of the loudest voices when it comes to pointing out the smaller size of their favorite foods. One such item is the McDonald's breakfast burrito — a mix of scrambled eggs, sausage, tomatoes, green chilies, onions, and melted American cheese inside a white flour tortilla.
This savory breakfast item seems to have legions of fans, but the dwindling size of the burrito has caused many to jump ship. Not only have they noticed the burrito is now more the size of a taquito, but the price has increased. As one Redditor commented, "They were a great breakfast item at $1. For $3.79? No way. They are tiny and most of the time overcooked." In a food-related Facebook group, one customer posted a photo of the tiny burrito they received, saying, "Had to grab breakfast on the run today so I grabbed an old favorite from McDonald's. I don't remember the breakfast burrito being "Fun Size". $9.50 for two of those and a large coffee."
Another Redditor lamented, "The McDonald's breakfast sausage burrito was recently shrinkflated again it seems. They were once twice this size." The accompanying photo shows what can only be described as a miniscule burrito, barely any bigger than the packet of McDonald's mild picante sauce that was placed beside it for this sad size comparison. It's enough to make one reminisce about the good old days when the price of a Big Mac was 45 cents.
Inconsistent preparation may be part of downfall of this breakfast burrito
According to Reddit users, some of whom claim to have worked at McDonald's, the sausage breakfast burritos are continuously kept warm, which can cause them to dry out. "The ends were hard and the whole thing was dry. I genuinely can't believe they sell this garbage for $3," said one unimpressed customer. Another claimed: "Everything in that burrito comes frozen in one bag, eggs, sausage, peppers, and then they throw you a half slice of cheese in there and roll it up. Then it gets microwaved and thrown in a heated cabinet to stay warm."
In another thread, a photo of the breakfast burrito from McDonald's website is shown alongside what a customer received. The second photo looks like a literal hot mess — much of the egg and cheese are stuck to wrapper. While we don't expect fast food to be perfect, the discrepancy here is laugh-out-loud funny. Another commenter agreed, "I love them but it's hit or miss. They are either fresh and exactly as pictured or all jacked up dried up and gross."
Former fans of the McDonald's breakfast burrito seem to miss what was once their favorite item, and the decreased size and value have sent them looking for other options. Sadly, the breakfast burrito is now one of the McDonald's items you should probably avoid ordering. Instead, maybe just stick with the beloved Egg McMuffin.
