The Worst Chain Chocolate Chip Cookie Comes From A Sub Shop

Who doesn't love a chocolate chip cookie? When they're made right, they're a nostalgic and satisfying dessert. Unfortunately, when they're made poorly, they're something else entirely (as anyone who's made a mistake that ruined their chocolate chip cookies knows). To help you avoid that fate, we reviewed the 5 best and 5 worst chain chocolate chip cookies. Our reviewer set out to determine which cookies were worth buying, based on their taste, texture, and freshness. She conducted a taste test with cookies from the 10 chains located closest to her, and the winners and losers emerged quickly.

One such loser was Firehouse Subs. Our reviewer is usually a fan of the sub chain, having been impressed by its toasted subs and unique hot sauce bar. She had similar high hopes for their chocolate chip cookie, but unfortunately, it did not stand up to scrutiny. She described this cookie as having a boring taste and being a little stale. Her guess was that "they forgot that chocolate chips were an essential ingredient and chose to add them in at the last minute." In the cookie's defense, our reviewer noted that the texture of the treat wasn't so bad, but the lack of flavor was a deal breaker for her. In fact, she didn't recommend buying it, especially when she found that other sub chains like Jersey Mike's have outstanding cookies.

What other people are saying

Around the internet, the feeling about Firehouse Subs cookies is a resounding "meh." Although no one we found passionately hates this cookie, many agreed with our reviewer that the flavor was bland and the cookie was stale. One reviewer described the cookie as hard and emphasized that they didn't even finish it. In a Reddit thread about the best fast food chocolate chip cookies, one person named Firehouse Subs as their favorite ... but no one chimed in to agree. It's unclear whether Firehouse Subs makes its cookies in-house, which may be behind that staleness haunting the treat.

However, all desserts ultimately have their supporters. One Redditor requested a copycat recipe because they felt the cookie's taste and texture were perfect. We found such a copycat recipe difficult (though not impossible) to find, suggesting that there may be less interest in it than copycat recipes from other chains like Subway. The Firehouse Subs Instagram did not provide any answers and, in fact did not appear to have any posts about the cookies at all, unlike some of the competition.

If you really feel that you must sample these wares, Firehouse Subs offers other cookie flavors, including oatmeal and celebration sugar cookie (note that flavor options may vary by location). Our reviewer did not sample these, but frankly, we don't have high hopes for these treats, either. We recommend opting for Jersey Mike's for your lunchtime cookie fix, or go big and get your favorite cookie based on our Crumbl ranking.
