Frozen pizza is one of our favorite subjects — we could literally talk about it for days. There is a wide world of hacks out there related to freezer-case pie, and we love to experiment with new ways to improve this quick, delicious meal. We've ranked frozen pizza brands, and, with our favorite specimens in hand, we've discovered a fantastic new way to improve your store-bought 'za. Remember when we talked about why you should thaw frozen pizza before putting it in the oven, and some folks had reservations?
Today's advice is this: Partially defrost your frozen pizza, and take the opportunity to rearrange toppings for an even spread. How often have you been peeved by a meat lover's pie with all the protein piled in the middle, or a pepperoni pizza that's near-impossible to cut because the sausage gets in the way of your cutter? There's really no reason for this to happen ever again. Simply thaw your pizza just enough that the toppings soften up, and arrange them in a way that's harmonious and enjoyable for you and whomever you will be sharing the pizza with. When you bake your pizza, the toppings will stay in their new, improved placements, ensuring that your hot, baked pizza is a giant step up from its original form.
Rearrange toppings, and add your own!
We're psyched about the idea of rearranging our frozen pizza toppings, because having all the toppings piled together in one section bums us out. Not only is this unfair to multiple people sharing, but the toppings can't cook properly when they aren't spread out. Distributing your frozen pizza toppings does two things: It more equitably distributes the toppings that come in the box, and it leaves you more room for our other favorite pizza hack, adding your own!
Why not kick it up a notch with the addition of some fresh-cooked, crumbled bacon, some hot Italian sausage, or a bit of chorizo? Don't be shy about veggies, either — fresh, crispy peppers, red onion, broccoli, and/or mushrooms all work great on frozen pizza. Want a simple kind of pie? You can still take it to the next level with the addition of some extra cheese — only fresh-grated, please!
When your pizza comes out of the oven, you can even brush the crust with garlic butter or drizzle some raw hot honey over the molten added toppings. When you take your pizza destiny into your own hands, the sky's the limit! Next you'll have to try upgrading your frozen pizza by adding an egg on top.
