Lately we've been pretty obsessed with Dollar Tree must-haves to organize our kitchen and finds to declutter our kitchen cabinets. Who knew that the dollar store — where, we know, things cost more than just a buck these days — was so chockablock full of goodies to make our cooking space a mecca of aesthetically pleasing tidiness and order? Our latest fixation in our ongoing quest to achieve organizational nirvana are these square peg boards. At 8.75 inches square, they aren't especially huge like some kitchen peg boards we've seen, but you can easily tile them to make a larger surface, depending on how much area you want to fill.

As of this writing, the boards are $1.25 each and come in either black or gray. According to reviews, they are packaged with adhesive squares for easy hanging, but you might want to switch over to drywall screws. That's for two reasons: first of all, customers have complained of the adhesive ruining the finish of their walls, and secondly, reinforcing the pegboard with screws will allow you to hang heavier objects without worrying about your setup crashing down. It may be worth that extra effort, though, as your walls are some of the most underutilized spaces in your kitchen. While cabinets, shelves, and closets can get jammed full, your walls are probably free. Why not grab a set of pegboard organizer accessories and get to planning your perfect kitchen nook?

Ideas for your kitchen peg board(s)

Peg boards are intended to help you save space, so it stands to reason that you might want them to hold some of the bulkiest, space-wasting items in your kitchen arsenal: pans and skillets. If you will be hanging cooking vessels, be extra sure to secure your boards well and grab a stud finder and anchors to mount your peg boards safely. On a lighter note (literally), you can use a long line of peg boards to hang utensils that you use frequently, like spatulas, serving spoons, and tongs.

We also love the idea of a peg board display as an open pantry. Where better to show off those HomeTok-approved plastic bins holding nuts, beans, or pasta, which look as pretty as they are useful? Or use peg board racks to contain your spice bottles, knowing (as you do) that spices are one of the best groceries to buy at Dollar Tree? Not only will your ingredients be just an arm's length away, but the uniform look will show that you are a home cook who has their stuff together.

Lastly, we've seen smart homeowners using a system of peg boards to make a home command center. You can hang keys and the family calendar, use a wire basket for mail that needs to be sorted, and attach a dry-erase whiteboard (which Dollar Tree also sells) that can be customized with a dinner menu, grocery list, or whatever else you wish. Don't forget clips for takeout menus, oil change coupons, and show-off report cards!
