11 Gordon Ramsay Frozen Meals Ranked Worst To Best, According To Reviews

When it comes to celebrity chefs, Gordon Ramsay is arguably one of the most recognizable. You don't have to be a foodie to be familiar with the angry blonde's tirades against food that's raw or bland, his creative insults, and his plethora of cooking shows.

While Ramsay has made a name for himself (literally, most of his restaurants bear his famous moniker) in fine dining, in 2023 he decided that us plebs should have a taste of the good life, too. The celebrity chef collaborated with grocery store giant Walmart to offer a selection of frozen dinners under the name "by Chef Ramsay." Exclusive to the chain, Ramsay's frozen meals can only be purchased at store locations at this time.

But, for a man who's built a career critiquing the cooking of others, is the food actually any good? Frozen meals can be pretty hit or miss on both quality and quantity, and many have wondered if Ramsay has simply slapped his name on a sub-par line of products in order to rake in the cash. To determine if any of his current frozen meal offerings are worth adding to your cart, we looked to the customers who have come before. Rather than a subjective ranking, we checked out Walmart's own website to see which dinners are hits and which make Ramsay look like an "idiot sandwich."

11. Chicken Pot Pie

Chicken pot pie is a comfort dish. You can head over to your favorite mom and pop restaurant or diner for a classic rendition of this homey delight, or make your own with everything from store-bought pie dough to Red Lobster's famed Cheddar Bay Biscuits.

One chicken pot pie you might not want to try, however, is the one offered by chef Gordon Ramsay as part of his line of frozen dinners. This particular pot pie is described as containing chicken breast pieces, peas, and carrots in a creamy sauce and topped with puff pastry. Unfortunately, according to reviews on Walmart.com (the only grocery store chain that currently offers Gordon Ramsay's frozen line), this pot pie hardly earns the name.

Multiple images show a weird, cracker-like crust for the pie that sits atop a pretty messy looking filling. Negative reviews of the frozen dinner claim that it's both too salty as well as bland, with one particularly agitated customer writing, "Gordon Ramsay has absolutely zero business criticizing any other person's food after putting his name on this inedible garbage!"

10. Fish & Chips

Gordon Ramsay knows the importance of quality fish and chips. Not only is it a staple in British cuisine, but the celebrity chef even has restaurants in Las Vegas, New York, and Washington D.C. called, appropriately, Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips. One would think, then, that his frozen interpretation of the classic pub food would be nothing short of excellent.

Alas, you'll need to temper those expectations the next time you cruise your local Walmart freezer aisle if you plan on picking up this frozen dish. Gordon Ramsay's Fish & Chips provides customers with beer-battered pollock fish bites and thick cut fries. While a lemon wedge and tartar sauce are included in the box's image, neither are provided (even though the man himself has a secret to top-notch tartar sauce). Another sticking point reviewers have is that, despite saying that this frozen dinner contains two servings, there is barely enough for one, with a paltry six to eight fish bites and just slightly more fries. Additionally, for a man who is famous for screaming that a dish needs more seasoning, multiple reviews complained that the overall flavor of this fish and chips frozen dinner was just bland.

9. Shepherd's Pie

Of all people, Gordon Ramsay should know that shepherd's pie is not made with beef, which is what is contained in this frozen dinner. This is, technically speaking, a cottage pie. A traditional shepherd's pie is made with lamb. We will assume this was a marketing choice rather than one made by Ramsay himself, based on the likelihood that more customers are familiar with what a shepherd's pie is than a cottage pie, even if that assumption is incorrect.

Ramsay's frozen foray into this rustic meal contains peas and carrots and is topped with cheesy mashed potatoes, which sounds like a nice flavorful addition to classic mash. Some images found on Walmart's website show some discrepancy with said potatoes, with a few images showing nice peaked spuds and others melted into a bit of a goopy mess. However, this could be a result of shipping and handling rather than overall meal quality. So, what do the reviewers say?

Some found that the price for the quantity was uneven, even if the meal itself was decent enough. One reviewer said the portion was maybe enough for a grade-school child, but not an adult. It seems that, by being a professional chef who makes a decent chunk of his living off of critiquing the food of others, many customers simply expected better.

8. Lemon Caper Chicken

Now we're getting into some gourmet dishes. While pastas, stews, and pot pies are pretty common among the frozen food set, we don't think we've seen lemon caper chicken offered by any others. Gordon Ramsay's version of the dish features an herb breaded chicken breast with lemon caper sauce, roasted potatoes, and broccoli. It sounds delicious, but is it?

According to reviews, this offering from Ramsay's line is okay, but not great, which is why it's almost squarely in the middle of this ranking. Again, customers took issue with the cost as well as the quantity. While some found the meal to be flavorful, others declared it to be way too salty, drowning out any acidic or bright notes from the lemon and capers. Additionally, some said that, despite following package instructions, the breading on the chicken turned out mushy rather than crispy — a common complaint among microwave meals, and ideally one that can be rectified with the use of an air fryer. A light enough meal (the whole thing is a mere 340 calories), but with 1,000 milligrams of sodium, it's not the best choice if you're watching your salt intake.

7. Salisbury Steak

The meal once found in cafeterias and old-school diners everywhere: Salisbury steak. Of course, this dish isn't actually steak in the vein of sirloin or filet mignon. It's a misnomer, with the actual protein made of ground beef patties browned in a skillet and served with a gravy.

Gordon Ramsay's frozen version features a seasoned ground steak patty with a caramelized onion and mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes, ensuring it'll stick to your ribs — assuming it's a decent portion. Unlike previous entrants on this list, customers seem pretty content with the portion size of this meal, even if it still didn't measure up to the promised two portions.

The flavor is said to be rich and nicely seasoned, with either the perfect amount of gravy or too much gravy, depending on the individual tastes of the customer. If you like retro comfort food, this may hit the sweet spot for you. If, however, you'd prefer something a little more highly rated, keep reading.

6. Slow Roasted Beef

Why wait to have a Sunday roast dinner when you can pick up a frozen meal from Gordon Ramsay and have an (allegedly) similar experience? Slow-roasted beef brisket is served in a red wine sauce with mushrooms and onions and finished with a helping of seasoned roasted potatoes. We can appreciate eschewing the more common mashed potatoes for roasted potatoes to add a little variety in texture in this dish. However, like most meals from this line of Ramsay's — and frozen dinners in general — it is aggressively high in sodium, with one bowl packing a whopping 1,420 milligrams. That may explain why some customers found the red wine sauce to be far too salty.

A common refrain we found for this meal in particular was that the quality had sharply declined since it was first introduced. It was back in the summer of 2023 that the celebrity chef announced his decision to move into the frozen food market and unfortunately since then, it seems that the quality of some dishes — this slow-roasted beef included — does not measure up to the dish that was available in years past.

5. Four Cheese Macaroni

Macaroni and cheese is a classic. Whether you're a fan of it made from scratch, coming out of a box in the back of your pantry, or a frozen version like this one, we can all agree that it's an elite comfort food.

Chef Ramsay's freezer aisle version boasts four distinct cheeses in its recipe: fontina, mozzarella, Parmesan, and provolone. It features the standard elbow macaroni noodles, although these ones are shorter and plumper than the slender ones that come in a familiar blue box, and the whole dish is finished with a cornbread crumb topping.

While our friends over at Mashed didn't love this frozen mac (it ranked dead last), the common consensus among Walmart customers is that this dish is that it's just okay. The biggest complaint seems to be that the price is out of step with the small portion size, but that the flavor is cheesy and overall pleasant. We say try this if you come across it on sale, but maybe temper your expectations.

4. Chicken Marsala Pasta

Contrary to the name, chicken Marsala — like quite a few beloved "Italian" foods – isn't actually from Italy. The dish made with sweet Marsala wine is said to be the work of French chefs for Sicilian nobility, but it has since become a favorite among Italian Americans. The frozen Gordon Ramsay version features roasted chicken pieces with fettuccine pasta in a creamy mushroom wine sauce.

So, how does it stack up against Nonna's home cooking?

Well, for a frozen version it seems okay, but definitely not something you could pass off as the real deal. According to reviews, the sauce and pasta are the stars of the dish, while the chicken leaves something to be desired. In addition to being small in size, some customers complained that their chicken was gristly and tough. It's certainly not the breaded cutlet we're used to enjoying in this Sicilian-style dish. Another questionable review pointed out a strange pink liquid that seeped from the dish after cooking. We're not sure if it's caused by a separation of the sauce or something else, but it is worth noting if you're planning to purchase.

3. Lasagna with Bolognese Meat Sauce

Chef Ramsay seems to be a bit of a pasta fiend, if his lineup of frozen dinners are anything to go by. The top three dishes according to reviews all star this carb-heavy comfort food (albeit in different forms). Taking the bronze medal is none other than Lasagna with Bolognese Meat Sauce.

According to the box, this isn't traditional lasagna, being that it's more of a pasta rollup, with ricotta, Romano, and Parmesan cheeses in a pork and beef Bolognese sauce that's topped with mozzarella. While we're not one to quibble about the architecture of traditional lasagna, it's worth noting so you won't be surprised if you decide to add it to your cart.

Reviews are generally quite positive, with customers declaring that this was the best frozen lasagna they'd ever have, even if the two portions shown on the packaging weren't entirely accurate. For those who think microwaving lasagna is a no-no, one customer offers a method for heating in the oven: Place two frozen dinners in a foil pan, bake for 25 minutes at 375 F, top with more mozzarella, and heat for a couple minutes longer until the cheese melts.

2. Alfredo Lasagna with Chicken

Scoring a not too shabby second place is Chef Ramsay's Alfredo Lasagna with Chicken. If you're not a fan of the tomato-heavy, beefy lasagna of the last frozen dinner, this frozen meal has you covered.

Again, these are lasagna rollups, not the layered pasta dish we know and love. In this case, these rollups are filled with chicken and a multitude of cheeses, including mozzarella, Romano, Parmesan, and ricotta. The whole thing is settled in an Alfredo sauce and topped with breadcrumbs and a cheese blend that includes mozzarella, provolone, fontina, and Parmesan. So, if creamy cheese with a bit of carbs and chicken is what you're craving, this is a must-buy.

Many reviewers stated how surprised they were with the quality of this frozen meal, saying that it was creamy, flavorful, and their new go-to for an easy dinner. The overall quality of this particular frozen dish is what pushed it near the top, since multiple reviews said, had they not made it themselves, they never would've believed it was a frozen meal.

1. Spicy Cheese Ravioli

The winner of all of Gordon Ramsay's meals, according to reviews, is none other than Spicy Cheese Ravioli! Pillowy pasta pockets are filled with ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses before being tossed in a tomato sauce that's spiced with Calabrian chili.

Ravioli is a crowd pleaser as far as pasta goes and it has the benefit of holding up pretty well to being frozen and reheated. Will it taste like fresh homemade pasta? No, but if the reviews are anything to go by (and we think they are), this dish comes pretty close.

Each box contains five large ravioli, which sounds a little skimpy, but apparently the flavor — and size of the ravioli themselves — balances things out. There is a noticeable kick from the chili, but not so much that you'll be chugging milk or wiping a runny nose. We appreciate when a packaged item actually stays true to what it advertises, so Chef Ramsay gets bonus points there. If you're stumped on what dish to try first from the foul-mouthed chef's line of frozen dinners, let this be the one to win you over.
