Cheaper Than Amazon: These Popular Dollar Tree Mugs Are A Total Steal

We often find ourselves in a state of pleasant surprise at the deals we can uncover at Dollar Tree, especially when stacking up its offerings against competitors. In the recent past, we discovered Mediterranean dinner plates that were being resold online like they were collectibles and cheap bud vases perfect for DIY that were less than half the price of the same object at Hobby Lobby. We've been particularly impressed by Dollar Tree's drinkware, including sturdy mugs that shoppers call "perfect."

This brings us to another potentially superb buy we noticed: mason jar mugs. These glass vessels with handles are a popular way to sip everything from lemonade to cola to sweet tea ... or even a cocktail or two. Dollar Tree's website sells a 12-pack of country-style mason jar mugs for $18. To put that in comparison, Amazon is offering a 12-pack of comparable 16-ounce mason jar mugs for $31.99. Granted, the Amazon mugs have lids, but that's a tremendous price difference just for some generic metal screw-top lids ... especially when you consider that Amazon offers a dozen mason jar lids for $9.99, meaning that you would still come out ahead by purchasing them separately. On the Dollar Tree product page, the largely favorable reviews of the mugs mention that the same lids that fit Ball canning jars will fit the DT mugs. Furthermore, reviews praise the durability of the vessels, with several consumers bragging that theirs have held up for several years.

We can think of several uses for these mugs

The rustic look of mason jars is perennially popular in many kitchens, and the Dollar Tree mugs offer an entry-level opportunity to experiment with this trend at a budget price point. Obviously, you could use these mugs for beverages, and having 12 pieces would give you a set that was large enough for even a big family or a holiday party setting. One of the things we love about mason jars, however, is how incredibly versatile they are, meaning their uses need not be limited to just beverage consumption. If you keep half the dozen mugs for everyday drinking, you could put the other half to several worthwhile uses in your home.

For example, your long-handled sponges around the kitchen sink need a place to drip dry that's also easy to clean. A mason jar mug works! If you purchase lids, we could also see these mugs sitting on your coffee bar holding sugar and powdered creamer. The mouths are wide enough for a spoon, and they'd look cute on display. We also wouldn't be mad about using these mugs to hold potted succulents or small herb plants on your windowsill, since they would be lightweight and easy to move around as needed. Speaking of bud vases, it's easy to imagine the mason jar mugs holding short bouquets of daisies scattered across a table to bring a pop of sunshine inside the house.
