We're all about celebrating the dawn of a new year in a festive way, from eating the best foods to bring luck to drinking Champagne on New Year's Eve as we lock down our list of resolutions. No matter what you are dishing up on the last day of the year — or the first one of the new year! — it helps to have a little light to illuminate your table and add some warmth to the darkest days of winter. Luminarias are a December tradition that came to us from Mexico, but may we suggest a different kind of flickering glow to celebrate the turn of the calendar?

To be specific, we're loving yet another killer Dollar Tree score: pint jar tealight candleholders, which are currently selling for just $1.25 apiece. As of this writing, they are in stock online, though you'll have to buy a minimum of 24; they are also available at several local stores. Check inventory online on Dollar Tree's website before heading out into the holiday bustle to try and score some.

As the name suggests, these clever, adorable candleholders are glass pint jars like you might use for canning (although distinctly not like vintage glass Weck jars you might find at thrift stores). They include a screw-on open lid with a tealight holder that hangs down in the middle, making them easy to load and light. We're interested in the simplicity and elegance of these candleholders and think they would perfectly complement a festive and classy New Year's Eve party or cozy family New Year's Day celebration.

Let your little light shine with these candleholders

Candlelight is romantic and atmospheric at any time of year, but especially at the New Year, when the gentle flame puts one in mind of hope, optimism, and warmth. We're equally partial to both real tealight candles, which can be bought in bulk and battery-operated flameless votives, which are a longer-lasting (and arguably safer) way to mimic fire and which can be used again and again on Christmas and Halloween as well. Whichever option you choose, we love the idea of multiple clusters of the Dollar Tree candleholders grouped together. Not only will their collective glow be stronger, but the candleholders make pretty vignettes when arranged in corners or as a centerpiece on your table.

If you have a long dining table, consider a festive table runner with a line of these glass jars straight down the middle. Dim lights in the dining room are a must, of course, to really set a moody ambience. You might also consider an eclectic collection of candles as the decorating focus for the holiday, with tall tapers and squat pillar candles arranged around the room to complement the tiny tealights in their holders. Note that Dollar Tree sells plain glass candleholders and unadorned white taper candles, so you can easily have a one-stop shop for your New Year's needs.
