The Unassuming Suburb Where You'll Find The Largest Buffet In Texas

They say that everything is bigger in Texas, from the belt buckles to the hairstyles. Foodies will discover enormity at every turn in the Lone Star State, like 72-ounce steaks and The Oasis on Lake Travis, a restaurant that can seat over 2,500 guests at a time. Katy, Texas, is notable for being the opposite of huge. Boasting fewer than 20,000 residents, this suburb of much-larger Houston is known for its idyllic, small-town feel and great quality of life. But even itty-bitty Katy is hiding something grandiose: the biggest buffet in Texas, Katy's Feast Buffet.

Let's clear one thing up quickly: Feast Buffet is not the biggest buffet in America. That title goes to Shady Maple Smorgasbord, located in Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Honestly, though, with over 300 plates on offer over in Katy, one has to question why you would need any more options. With Chinese, Japanese, and Mexican dishes joining American favorites, there's quite literally something for everyone at Feast Buffet, and we don't throw that phrase around lightly. Whether you like dim sum, chicken wings, or tamales, you'll find it all (and more) at the buffet, which is open seven days a week. Word on the street is that the reasonable prices and astounding variety keep the place packed, especially on weekends, but plenty of seating guarantee that you shouldn't have to wait long to down your fill. While there's a popular chain buffet restaurant with a large weekend breakfast buffet, Feast Buffet is open for just lunch and dinner.

The food at Feast Buffet is abundant, but is it good?

All too often, the quality at buffet restaurants takes a backseat to quantity. Feast Buffet has the latter in spades, but how is the actual food? A spate of mixed reviews lead us to believe that you definitely won't go hungry, but the fare won't win any awards for taste, either. A Yelp review broke it down eloquently: "Let's also be clear: this is not amazing food. The abundance is the sell, the affordability is the desire, and the feast is the experience [...] Everything from the sushi to the ribeye steak to the desserts are going to be mediocre at best."

One TripAdvisor customer opined that the restaurant staff was exceedingly competent at serving food that was merely acceptable: "The restaurant is very well organized and the table staff were very efficient. With that being said : The Dim Sum was meager and pathetic. The Mexican food was nothing special, The Sushi was not spectacular but it was very plentiful and well prepared [...] I watched the cooks who were preparing the steaks as they served the customers — they had that routine down pat." Facebook reviews were much kinder to the restaurant, with many folks commenting on the cleanliness, yummy food, and flexibility of the buffet format for families and large parties. "EVERYTHING was delicious, flavorful and fresh," one review gushed. "The serving/wait staff was VERY attentive and helpful!"

Whether this buffet is worth your time and money demands, we think, largely on your expectations. If you are content with food that is mostly hot, presented well, and both copious and various, you will be satisfied. Those who are seeking a next-level dining experience may want to look elsewhere.
