This summer, we're turning to Walmart for (almost) all our garden needs. Not only does Walmart have a princely selection of necessities for both indoor and outdoor gardening, but the prices are exceptional — just look at these cheap herb planters that shoppers love. Speaking of planters, we recently found another super-intriguing item that we gotta have for our gardens. It's a Best Choice Products outdoor raised metal oval garden bed planter box, which is especially suited to vegetables and flowers. It's four feet long by two feet tall and a foot wide, and it's selling for $37.99 (as of this writing; availability and pricing may vary). They're roomy enough for a few plants, whether you choose cherry or grape tomatoes — yes, there is a difference! — cukes, sweet peas, or just a bunch of herbs. Going by the reviews, customers can't get enough of them.

These planters boast a 4.6/5-star average rating on Walmart.com, and 78% of those ratings are solid five stars. "Good quality, perfect size, and it looks beautiful with my vegetable plants. Highly recommended for small spaces or starting your own vegetable garden," one satisfied shopper wrote. Another buyer loved the dimensions: "It's smaller than I expected, and that's a GREAT thing. It fits perfectly on my balcony." Yet another review mentioned that these are great for folks starting out on their gardening journey: "Love the size of these! If you are new to gardening this may be the perfect size. [...] Not much effort to fill, extremely easy to put together."

The uses for these planters are varied

Although these metal planter boxes are bigger than individual pots, they are small enough to transport and to arrange multiple units in a large garden. On the other hand, as some reviews pointed out, their size also makes them suitable for apartment and condo dwellers who might only have a patio or balcony to work with. We love these planters for adding height — if you plant around the bases of them, you will have a functional, space-efficient garden setup that looks as nice as the food tastes when it grows! It's great that you can get multiple seedlings going in these planters and use them as a way of dividing up your garden, whether it's by type of plant, sun tolerance, or need for water — remember that how often you water your veggie garden is a function of what you are growing!

The Walmart planters also come in different colors, which increases your ability to either make an aesthetic visual arrangement if that matters to you, or to recall exactly what you are growing with just a glance. The planters have a generous 51-gallon soil capacity, which means that they will be heavy and sturdy when filled. Overall, we're just tickled pink with what these planters could mean for our summertime gardens and will be heading out to Walmart pronto ... or even having them delivered, which saves room in our cars for more awesome, inexpensive gardening supplies!
