Forget A Classic McDonald's Egg McMuffin – Order It Swedish-Style For A Delicious Upgrade
Many of us who want to start the day with a protein-and-carbs combo but can't be bothered to whip out the skillet head to our nearest McDonald's and order an Egg McMuffin. While biting into that soft, eggy deliciousness, it's easy to think that breakfast can't taste any better, but folks in Sweden could well have something to say about that. Mickey D's outlets in the Scandinavian country sell what's billed as the Mighty McMuffin, though it's not as puffed up as the name suggests. This breakfast menu item boasts the to-be expected egg, cheese, and sausage, but it also comes with two slices of bacon on top.
Although, in the good ol' US of A, we can counter that meaty gambit with biscuits and bagels instead of English muffins, you may still be curious about a Swedish-style Egg McMuffin. If you want to amp up the flavor of your takeout breakfast, you gotta mix things up when ordering. You can either ask for a traditional, much-loved Egg McMuffin, with its slice of yummy Canadian bacon, and then request an additional sausage patty to be slipped in between or request that bacon be added to your next Sausage McMuffin with Egg. When you get your hands on it, all that's left to do is chow down while sending happy thoughts to our friends in Sweden.
The savory addition packs a flavor punch, but watch out for all that salt
There are some who can't stomach the thought of McDonald's for breakfast, but the Egg McMuffin is not quite the artery-clanging start to the day that naysayers might believe. It has 17 grams of protein, which is in the ballpark of this cereal, and sans any add-ons, contains 310 calories. Although that's 10 less than McDonald's fruit and maple oatmeal, the McMuffin admittedly serves up a lot of sodium (770 mg), only marginally less than the sausage burrito. Adding bacon to your Sausage McMuffin with Egg will send that number higher, so if you're watching your salt intake, perhaps it's best to make your Swedish-style breakfast an occasional treat.
The Mighty McMuffin isn't the only difference between the Swedish and American breakfast menus, either. Apart from the Big Mac's inclusion, hungry Swedes can also sink their teeth into a McMuffin that has two sausages. There are other waiting treasures on the McDonald's menu in Sweden, which also sells old-style apple pies flavored with cinnamon. The dessert was reintroduced to American outlets as a limited-time offer in summer 2026, but, unlike this McD's fruity favorite, it got a cool reception stateside. Not only was there a mandatory 10-minute wait before people could start eating — thus avoiding the hotter-than-the-surface-of-the-sun filling — the taste of the American version wasn't all that, either. "The cinnamon flavor tastes like the scent used for cheap candles," one Redditor sighed. Maybe they're better in Sweden, too.
