What Is Bobby Flay's Favorite Chocolate Candy Bar?
If Bobby Flay likes it, that's all the endorsement many of us need. The Food Network star, restaurant owner, and proud cat dad has amazing taste in food ... no surprise, obviously. When Bobby Flay bragged about his favorite late-night snack, we ran out and made one. So, when we uncovered a 2011 Christmas episode of The Best Thing I Ever Ate with Flay talking about his chocolate bar of choice, you can bet we took notice. As per the video, Flay is obsessed with the Chocolate Gold Bars from Fran's Chocolates in Seattle. Described as an upscale Almond Joy, the Chocolate Gold Bars feature a bed of dark chocolate piped with a thick, golden layer of coconut ganache, imprinted with succulent almonds, and then covered with even more glossy dark chocolate. According to Bobby Flay, the best part of the bar is that you can "really taste the coconut." Sounds like someone might be a fan of the popular Passover dessert, coconut macaroons!
Flay says that his assistant buys him a box of Coconut Gold Bars every holiday season. The bars are sold in boxes of six, making them the perfect treat for splitting up over a longer period or sharing with loved ones. Flay confesses that he can practically inhale his over the course of just a few days, so we won't judge you if you do the same. Again, if it's good enough for Bobby Flay, it's surely good enough for the common man!
What makes Fran's Chocolates different?
Fran's has been a Seattle institution since 1982, creating confections made with high-end ingredients and creativity. While there is a long list of chocolate types, all with different uses in cooking and candy-making, Fran Bigelow made her name by mastering how to utilize the best chocolate in ways that promoted novelty and distinction without sacrificing quality. Bigelow has earned the distinctions of the best overall chocolatier in the United States by The Book of Chocolate, and Outstanding Fine Chocolatier — North America by the Fine Chocolate Industry Association. Now, her son and daughter have taken over the business, kicking off a second generation of fine chocolate-craft.
Chocolate lovers of all stripes will find something to enjoy from Fran's. There are, of course, traditional favorites like chocolate bunnies for Easter and boxes of gorgeous bonbons, but Fran's also offers bespoke chocolate wedding favors, rich sipping chocolate, chocolate and tea pairings, and even chocolate-covered fruit. It's little surprise that a big-league foodie like Bobby Flay gravitates towards artisanal chocolate like what Fran's produces. Whether you opt for his favorite Coconut Gold Bars or try something different, it's likely that you, too, will find the chocolate as craveable as Flay's Christmas treat.
