The 10 Best Wegmans Bakery Items, Hands Down

Wegmans is a supermarket on the grow, and no small part of that phenomenon has to do with the exceptional quality of its bakery. While the store's private brands are, overall, definitely something to write home about, its baked goods take not just the cake — see what we did there? — but the muffins, the challah, and the brioche. We've previously discussed the reason why you might think twice about purchasing grocery store baked goods, but it's almost as if Wegmans is immune to some of the widespread quality issues we encounter in supermarket "bakeries." That's not to say that every single item is a winner (some Wegmans shoppers have given up on the bakery's bagels), but there does seem to be a surpassing number of hits to misses when comparing customer reviews ... and that's supermarket math that we like to see.

Keep in mind that not every Wegmans location carries every item on this list, so check with your local store before making a dedicated trip to pick up a special treat. Items' placement on this (non-ranked) list is based on customer feedback pulled from the Wegmans website, and reviews are, obviously, subjective. With those disclaimers in place, let's dive into the main event: Drooling over delicious bakery fare!

Gluten-Free Vanilla Cupcakes

"You would never know these are gluten free! They have to be the best vanilla cupcakes I've ever had," one review raved. That's high praise for gluten-free cake, which can too often run crumbly and dry or taste weird. Several customers claimed that these cuppies are superior to even "normal" confections, however. Best of all, you don't need to rely on knowledge of the Lambeth cake decorating method to enjoy pretty desserts, as these come with a chocolate topper. At less than seven bucks for a four-pack, these desserts have value and quality on their side.

Dinner Rolls

A mistake to avoid when hosting Thanksgiving dinner that's just as ruinous at a weeknight table is overlooking the dinner rolls. For the carboholics among us, a delicious plate of food without a side bread option is like a hug without the squeeze. Wegmans serves up a dinner roll that's more than serviceable, winning points for texture, taste, and versatility. As one reviewer put it: "These rolls are always fresh and soft/not too soft. We use them for more than dinner, as a snack with coffee they're just sweet enough and as a mini sandwich bun they're delicious too."

Garlic Naan

Remember when we spilled the beans on an easy weeknight dinner made with Aldi's butter chicken curry sauce? When saucy main dishes are on the menu, naan is a delicous option for sopping them up. Gently warmed, this Indian flatbread is the perfect finishing touch to your meal ... and Wegmans serves up an excellent version. Reviewers enjoy spreading it with pizza sauce for personal pies, or slicing it into buttery strips of garlic bread. "Perfect amount of garlic," one reviewer stated. "This is best store naan I've had so far."

Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies

Remember the list of the best and worst chain chocolate chip cookies? Imagine our surprise when a grocery store cookie blew them out of the water. Wegmans' chocolate chip cookies get attention for size, pillowy consistency, chocolatey goodness, and fresh-baked appeal. The packaging recommends nuking them for a few seconds to warm them up ... but you might not be able to resist munching straight from the box. "My favorite [c]hoc chip cookie!" a reviewer raved. "It's perfect in every way. Flavor is balanced with plenty of chocolate, just the right amount of salt and vanilla."

Strawberry Shortcake Slice

Over 100 happy reviewers have glowingly praised this hunk of fruity, creamy cake, which is sold in individual-sized servings. A beer spritz may be the ultimate summer cocktail, but we'd argue that strawberry shortcake is the signature warm weather dessert — not that we're ever turning it down! Wegmans's version does shortcake right, with toothsome golden cake, fluffy whipped cream, and ripe berries that hit the right balance of tart, sweet, and satisfying. "I will pick one up now and again because it is THAT good," a return customer vowed.

Lemon Bars

Sure, two-ingredient lemon bars are easy to whip up, but they can't hold a candle to the pretty, delicious version at Wegmans, which tastes like sunshine on a plate. Silky lemon cream sits atop a cookie crust, all dusted with a crumble-and-powdered-sugar topping. Best of all, you get two of these to a package. Do you eat them both, or share with a friend? Decisions, decisions. One reviewer broke things down so simply that we're ready to run to the store ASAP: "A little sweet and a little tart. A perfectly balanced treat to accompany your coffee."

Iced Cinnamon Buns

Who needs a TikTok hack for gooier canned cinnamon rolls when you have fresh-off-the-shelf specimens this good? These cinnamon rolls are a bit spendy ($10 for a four-pack at a North Carolina store), but for that price, you get almost 1.5 pounds of solid cinnamon roll absolutely smothered in a cream cheese icing that gets particular kudos for flavor and lack of cloying sweetness. One reviewer elaborated: "These were the absolute best cinnamon buns I ever had! Dough was soft and fluffy, perfect amount of sweetness, icing was phenomenal! Definitely worth every penny!"

Whole Wheat English Muffins

Whether you're slathering the crannies with butter or using it for the basis of your beans on toast, an English muffin is an oft-underrated player in the morning meal game. A great English muffin blends into the background and leaves you satisfied after eating. A lousy English muffin, however, sucks up all the attention in the room with tastelessness, lousy texture, and/or lack of moisture. A Wegmans review dubbed these whole wheat muffins "delicious and nutritious," explaining: "I tried them because they're high in protein and fiber. I keep buying them because they're yummy."

Under the Tuscan Sun Garlic Bread

Sure, you can assemble the viral pickle-lettuce-bacon sandwich that's a sour spin on a BLT, but if your bread choice is lacking, your lunch will never launch. Over 100 five-star ratings attest to the fact that this garlic bread round is absolutely delish, and great for starring in your next sando. "Love this," one satisfied review sighed. "A very good mild garlic flavor. Makes great toast, grilled cheese sandwiches and very good with lasagna." Change up everything you thought you knew about garlic bread with this loaf, and taste the difference.

Organic Miche Sourdough Bread

It's not in your imagination that there's a nutritional difference between white bread and sourdough, but the superior taste is the big attraction. It would be all too easy to fall afoul of bread snobs with a subpar grocery store sourdough loaf, but Wegmans's weighty organic bread holds its own. As one five-star review spelled out: "I'm a big fan of sourdough bread and Wegman's [sic] Miche SD is among the best I've ever tasted. Lightly toasted with some Kerrygold butter (a favorite as well) and it is an experience. One can't go wrong with this bread."
