How To Properly Order Chick-Fil-A's Ice Cream Sandwich

There are some controversies that Chick-fil-A would rather you didn't know about, but its off-menu ice cream sandwich is not top-secret. On its own website, Chick-fil-A squashes the idea that it has a "secret menu" of any sort but points out some common customer customizations of existing menu items, not unlike the under-the-radar custom CFA bowl hack. Like the aforesaid bowl hack, obtaining a Chick-fil-A ice cream sandwich involves some after-order manipulation of menu items — in this case, a cup of the restaurant's Icedream soft serve and two chocolate chunk cookies.

You can probably guess what comes next — and, if not, there's an illustrative Instagram reel from a CFA location in Flemington, New Jersey, to walk you through the steps. Unwrap your cookies, flip one over, and dump the contents of your Icedream cup on top. Lovingly smoosh the second cookie atop the soft serve, being careful not to let any squeeze out of the sides. Just like that, you have a whopper of an ice cream sandwich, all ready to go.

Note that it is neither possible nor appropriate to ask employees to assemble your ice cream sandwich for you, so this is a strictly DIY operation. The ice cream sandwich is not, after all, an official part of the chain's menu, and employees may or may not even know of its existence. Chick-fil-A employees say "my pleasure" and are known for exceptional politeness, but let's not take advantage of the drive-thru gang!

What you need to know about the ice cream sandwich

Being habitués of the Chick-fil-A drive-thru line and exceedingly familiar with its menu, we have a few suggestions for a practically perfect ice cream sandwich experience. For one, we recommend that you try it when you're dining inside the restaurant. Attempting to assemble it in the car could get messy, and waiting 'til you get home would surely result in melted Icedream! On that same note, you might want to let your cookies cool for a few minutes before placing your frozen dessert between them. Chick-fil-A cookies can sometimes be served at a toasty temperature, which is great for immediate enjoyment but not so helpful when it comes to layering with cold ice cream product. Consider ordering your cookies first and going back up for your Icedream.

Also know that this rich treat is pretty cost-effective for a Chick-fil-A dessert. As per the menu for a Florida Chick-fil-A outlet, a chocolate chunk cookie will set you back $1.79 apiece, and you need two. An Icedream cup is $1.65. Running some quick math, that's just north of $5 for an ice cream sandwich bodacious enough that it could probably be split between two people. For an extra 40 cents apiece, Chick-fil-A will hook you up with a side of cookie crumbles or chocolate syrup, either (or both!) of which could be used to further enhance your ice cream sandwich. We're sure you'll agree that very few "official" fast food secret menu items come close to this tacitly condoned Chick-fil-A hack!
