Order Your Culver's Burger Big Mac-Style For 10x The Flavor
A Culver's ButterBurger is already pretty special, a fact that can be attributed in part to it consisting of three distinct cuts of beef (sirloin, plate, and chuck). But why stop there? We've seen social media clips of folks taking this beloved Culver's specialty and giving it the McDonald's treatment by transforming it into the analogue of a Big Mac. The secret is adding extra pickles and lettuce to a double ButterBurger Cheese, along with a side of Thousand Island dressing and an extra bun. A little DIY fast food magic later — you just need to pry apart the two halves of the sandwich, add your sauce, and insert the bottom half of the extra bun in the middle — and you have a thick, dripping Big Mac dupe with that uniquely Culver's magic taste.
The addition of a buttered bun already makes ButterBurgers special, and the chain's flat, delicious smash burger patties seal the deal when it comes to fast food handheld supremacy. Where McDonald's pulls ahead with the Big Mac, however, is nostalgic flair and its Big Mac Sauce, though the Thousand Island dressing gets close. When you build your own Big Mac-esque burger at Culver's, you get the best of both worlds. We've also seen a version that sandwiched the beef between two Curder Burger patties for a cheesy Big Mac-style fusion that could easily be augmented with more sauce and toppings.
A Big Mac-style ButterBurger is a worthy burger with a beefy price tag
Given that the price of a Big Mac has fluctuated greatly since it debuted in the 1960s and currently sits around $6.29 today (at a representative McDonald's in west-central Florida), it's definitely in our interest to figure out how the Culver's version compares in terms of cost. We looked at a Culver's location, also in Florida, and found that, with no modifications, a double ButterBurger Cheese was already $7.99 without any extra toppings or the additional bun. Extra cheese alone is 50 cents per slice at the restaurant we considered, though that price is subject to change based on location. While we couldn't find the cost for an à la carte bun, we wouldn't be surprised if that's also an additional charge. In short, a Culver's "Big Mac" is quite a bit more expensive than the OG at the Golden Arches.
Does that mean that this hack has no merit? On the contrary! When someone dines at Culver's, they surely aren't expecting the same prices as they'd pay at McDonald's, as the Culver's menu is more expensive across the board. Of course, Culver's also has more options than McD's when it comes to sides. You can't get a Big Mac with cheese curds, onion rings, or chili at McDonald's! If you're already primed to pay Culver's prices, we think that transforming a ButterBurger with a few extras in the style of a Big Mac would pay off tremendously in terms of big flavor. Your mileage may vary, of course, when it comes to value, but we think you can't argue with the taste benefits.
