The only thing better than dessert — which tons of people agree is a very good thing indeed — is dessert on a budget. We love many things about Trader Joe's and feel terrible for the states that still don't have one, mostly because those hapless citizens are missing out on some extremely yummy sweets for extremely good prices. Where else can you find such a rich selection of scrumptious desserts for less than five bucks? Every month, we cover some of our favorite new finds at this grocery store (and sometimes even just our favorite candies, like we did in September 2026), and many are goodies of the sweet variety. Whether you want an after-dinner treat or simply a pick-me-up, Trader Joe's has you covered ... and for less cash, to boot.

Keep in mind that many items at Trader Joe's are limited-time only, meaning that they don't stick around forever. Did you miss something that sounds delish? Pay attention during the same season, next year, as many items come back based on the calendar. Otherwise, take heart — the rotating stock means that great new items are always popping up. Many Trader Joe's items are wallet-friendly, so we bet you can almost always find a little sweet something for less than five dollars. As of this writing, all the listed items were regular products — there's a good reason, however, why Trader Joe's discontinues beloved products (it has to do with shelf space), so never take anything for granted!

Italian Pistachio Gelato Style Frozen Dessert

Labels matter: the difference between ice cream and gelato has to do with the dairy product(s) used, and this is "gelato style frozen dessert." We wouldn't call ourselves pedantic, however — we really just like a cone of this stuff! TJ's touts the luscious texture and sweet-savory pistachio taste, while we love the fact that you can get a whole 16 ounces for $3.99. Drizzling a couple of scoops with some tempered chocolate glaze would be amazing, we think. TJ's has several great pints, but this nutty choice is a standout.

Chocolate Pudding

Whether eaten straight from a lunchbox or done up in the classic style of a no-bake "dirt cup" treat with gummy worms and crushed Oreos, many kids and adults go gaga for chocolate pudding. No, it isn't the fanciest dessert in the world, but it might just be among the most comforting. When the afternoon doldrums strike, a few spoonfuls of pudding can be exactly what you need. Trader Joe's sells a four-pack for $2.99. Keep some in the fridge and you'll never be short a treat when you need the snacky equivalent of a hug from a loved one.

Lemon Bars

We understand why leftover lemons attract butterflies, as this tangy fruit also attracts us! Lemons star in some of our favorite sweets, like lemon meringue pie and citrusy sugar cookies, but those all have to go in the oven. Not having to bake our own lemon bars is enough of an impetus for us to buy these Trader Joe's version, which only has to be defrosted an hour before eating, but the $4.99 price tag ain't exactly turning us away, either. They're as ideal for quotidian snacking as for serving up at a tea party on a special occasion.

Ube Mochi

On paper, the idea of ube mochi sounds distinctly peculiar. It's ice cream flavored with yams? Inside rice dough? The reality, however, is a box of sweet little bites that, once again, have cross-generational appeal. Trader Joe's is always slaying the mochi game, and we think we've narrowed down the manufacturer (Bubbies), but this box stands out for its grown-up flavor profile. Ube is a little more mature than chocolate and vanilla, after all, and we're occasionally mature adults. Sometimes. A box containing six mochi sells for $4.99.

Mini Cheesecake Cones

Regardless of your stance on the controversial question of whether cheesecake is pie or cake, we think you can't argue that it's absolutely transcendent when served in a crunchy cone. These cheesecake cones, which sell for $4.99 per four-pack, eliminate the fussiest part of scarfing our fave dessert, which is managing the fork. These are handheld, meaning that they can be eaten in many more situations ... just after the car ride from Trader Joe's comes to mind! These frozen beauties defrost in just 20 minutes, meaning an amazing treat is never far away.

Chocolate Lava Cakes

We know there are many different types of chocolate, but we've never found one we didn't like. For certified choco-holics, however, it's hard to improve upon chocolate lava cake. Straight from the freezer, all it takes is a minute-long nuke, and voilà! — a restaurant-quality dessert is served. A mere $3.99 gets you two of these cakes, the perfect amount for an at-home date night with your loved one or BFF. Of course, if you want to keep both for yourself, we won't snitch. Top 'em with some freshly made whipped cream and fresh berries.

Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches

Trader Joe's parking lots may be frustratingly small, but its standby ice cream sandwiches are stuffed full of all the good stuff: rich cookies, a thick slab of vanilla ice cream, and even a generous rolling of miniature chocolate chips on the outside. If you've got a craving for something not just sweet but luxurious as well, this will almost definitely hit the spot. You get four sandos to a box for $4.99. Normally DIY sweets are cheaper, but we don't know if cookie ingredients and ice cream would be cheaper.

Raspberry Filled Donuts

Keeping donuts fresh overnight can be a fraught matter (and this goes doubly so for filled donuts!) so frozen donuts that defrost overnight are definitely the play — especially when they're stuffed full of sweet raspberry filling. For $3.99 you get six donuts that would look lovely on a tiered stand at your next bridal or baby shower, along with any other parties you might throw. They're just the right size for a nibble! We think these would look especially fetching and taste really delish alongside fresh raspberries for visual and textural contrast.
